The Ante Medić Octet is an energetic, out-of-the-box experience created by a band that aims to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz. They are a forward thinking collective that stretches the creative confines and avoids the comfort zone, aiming for uncharted musical territories. Their sound and presence fuse the electric energy of a power trio with the intricate harmonies of a horn quintet. Some of the group’s wide array of influences include artists like Maria Schneider, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Aphex Twin.
VLOED
GROOVER STAGE | 17:15 - 18:15
The high tide has washed ashore three young lads who call themselves Vloed. They intrigue with complex solo’s and symbiotic playing, but are equally capable of remaining in the background. One moment the audience is floating away on dreamy ballads, only to get their feet swung off the ground, and land into a excursion to bossa nova. They were inspired by Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal and other virtuosic trio’s of the kind.

Winners of the Just Jazz bandcontest: De Nieuwe Lijn! Previously known as G.A.A.F., De Nieuwe Lijn is the newest combo to grace our line-up.This quartet presents a mixture of awesome hiphop and sultry jazz. This fusion creates the ultimate atmosphere for chillaxing, but this can quickly turn into a danceable vibe to get the feet loose and the backs off the wall. The amazing talent they showed at the Just Jazz pre-party landed them this spot at the Just Jazz Festival, so if you missed them before, be sure to see them on the 8th of May!
PROVALLONE

Meet Provallone, the band that makes your mouth water! With their delicious sound, they know how to enchant musical connoisseurs time and time again. Their music is a tasting platter of genres; an appetizing mix of soul, jazz and funk you just can’t resist. Ranging from mellow tracks for ultimate relaxation to tunes where singing and dancing along is quite simply your only option.
PICA TRIO
GROOVER STAGE | 20:45 - 21:45
The Pica trio play the swinging style of gypsy-jazz of the likes of Django Reinhardt and the Rosenberg trio. With two acoustic guitars and a saxophone the distinctive swing sound of the 1930s is brought back with a modern touch and the influence of Bossa and Swing music. Thanks to their modest line-up they can find their place in any setting with ease, from parties under the bright blue sky to the coziest pub.
RONNY DECARLO
TOPICUS STAGE | 18:45 - 19:45
Ronny de Carlo is the alias of Colombian Dutch guitarist Roenik Roa Espinosa. In search of a fresh sound he combines his guitar playing with influences ranging from fusion and hiphop to westerns and 90s video games. Crossing genre boundaries he strives for a balance between the energy of a live band and a contemporary hybrid sound with tight arrangements and cinematic improvisation.
VAN ROSENDAAL KWARTET

The Van Rosendaal quartet focuses on a lesser-known repertoire of bebop, alternating with moving ballads and cross-pollination with other styles such as latin and funk. Together they build a dynamic musical blend of tasty and unexpected jazz that can be tailored to any desired occasion.
CARIBINIERI FT. JEAN JACQUES

⭐Groover Finds presents: Carabinieri ft. Jean Jacques. The five-headed jazz monster decided that another genre receives their shared passion as well: hiphop. Because of this, the Carabinieri decided to make use of the Groover Finds project by linking up with Jean Jacques, a hiphop artist influenced equally by oldschool LA hiphop and Nederhop. The collaboration will see original tracks by both artists transformed to fit each others’ style and tone, to showcase this rich part of the spectrum of modern jazz.
FEMKE MOOREN QUARTET

The Femke Mooren Quartet is an ensemble with musicians who are all based in Rotterdam. Set up by the alto saxophone player Femke Mooren this band promises a performance where the listener will be touched by the original compositions of the group. The quartet plays melodic modern jazz and incorporates situations and stories of their lives into their songs. They want to make the audience feel something during the performance and share the emotions in the songs.
YORÀN VROOM

Through his (musical) upbringing, Yoràn Vroom has developed a deep interest in (West) African and Afro-Caribbean culture, which became instrumental in finding his voice as a composer. By working together with colleagues who all share expertise in the same field as well as their own personal interest, Group of friends became a breeding ground for experimentation in search of expanding the language of the Afro-diasporic culture.
KOTOKID
VESTE STAGE | 23:15 - 00:15
Imagine combining 80s jazzfusion and contemporary triphop. Right in the sweet spot of those two, lies the music of Amsterdam based multi-instrumentalist and producer Freek Mulder, aka kotokid. What you get is face-melting harmonies over murderous drums, vast synthscapes and fragile piano ballads. Performing live, kotokid plays bass while controlling a spaceship of synths, accompanied by guitar wizard Maarten Cima, and drummer beast Jonathan Szegedi. Perfectly in tune with their electronics, this trio manages to produce a DJ-scaring wall of sound, while maintaining the musical freedom and energy of a fusion band.

⭐Groover Finds presents: Organism & de Bellenblazers. Organism arose from a shared passion for blues, jazz and funk, who make every tune their own with their tight interplay and brilliant solos. The Bellenblazers project is an expansion of the already established combo, adding a thunderous horn section to their line-up. With their ambitions facilitated by the Groover Finds-project, Organism is ready to do everything it takes to get you dancing!

It's the perfect fit for the Groover Finds project! We've called upon Groover bands to venture beyond their usual boundaries, add new dimensions to their repertoire, collaborate with arrangers or guest artists, and present themselves in a fresh light. What surprises will Groover have in store for you this year?
